Dr Johar Ali is a pioneer in the field of genomics with his 25 years of experience spanning the historic Human Genome Project until the announcement of its results by President Clinton at the White House which he attended. Dr Ali was also part of the C. elegans genome project prior to that. After his work at the University of Washington, he moved on to set up the Genomics Centre at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research as a Team Leader in Canada. He then worked in the industry for a few years before coming to Pakistan to establish the Centre foe Genomic Sciences at the Rehman Medical Institute in Peshawar, the largest private sector hospital in KP.
