AI in Biomedicine

The AI in Biomedicine team is part of the larger Data group and is dedicated to advancing healthcare through various AI tools from machine learning and deep learning (ML/DL) to the likes of Generative AI (GenAI). Our work has mainly focused on integrating AI into clinical diagnostics in pathology and radiology as well as leveraging large-scale biological datasets for biomarker discovery and drug repurposing. One of our flagship projects was the digital histopathology project (see Studies section, for more) which led to the development of HistoVault v1 – large histopathology imageset for four different cancers in the local populations. Various AI models were trained and tested using HistoVault v1 for binary and multi-class predictions. The group is also training various LLM models using multiomic datasets for protein function prediction.
